I just don’t understand how people can look down on cosplay when it makes people so happy. We’re constantly called nerds and losers even though we’re having fun the safe, fun, cost-effective way.

Take $8.00 out of your pocket.

You can spend it on an alcoholic beverage at a bar.

Or you can spend it on fabric to make a cape for your newest cosplay idea.

Beverage buys you a sweet apple martini that will last a few hours.

Fabric buys you a few feet of material to work with to get your brain processing creatively.

Beverage buys you a nice buzz to socialize with others.

Fabric buys you the feeling of excitement and anticipation while styling it to your fictional hero’s outfit.

Beverage tastes good. And maybe even impairs your judgement to make friends with those smashed assholes.

Fabric will be used to make dozens of new friends at the con you’re attending in the future.

Beverage is gone. And so is your money and fun. Time to bum off someone else!

Fabric is looking pretty damn cool attached to your outfit right about now.

Fabric is being complimented by everybody who recognizes you, making you feel like the top dog at the con.

Fabric is being tugged on and played with by your new best friend.

Fabric is helping develop inside jokes with your few comrades.

Fabric is looking really awesome in those photoshoots.

Fabric is helping you develop a love of your character even more.

Fabric is creating new and cherished memories that will last forever.

Fabric is easy to wash and reuse if you put enough love and effort into it.

Fabric is being stored away safely to be used again for the same experience.

So, society, are the cosplayers REALLY wasting their money?
